Big John Willie's Hat
The Sunday Stitch
Welcome to The Sunday Stitch.
I was planning to show you my balls today 😳 My series of Elemental "Odd Balls," but like much in my life I haven't got round to taking the photos I'd like. How very unprofessional of me! 🙄
Instead I thought I'd show you one of my hats. It is also based on the elements and that's the thread that made me think of it.
I originally stitched this as part of my "Big John Willie" project. I don't intend to go too far down that rabbit hole, but BJW is one of my multiple identities. To be honest he's a bit of a "bad boy," & thankfully doesn't come out to play very often.
He calls himself a singer songwriter and has been working on his “Greatest Shits" album for what seems like an eternity.
Anyhow, I thought I'd Stitch him a special hat. I went with a basic black boiled felt, blocked to a Trilby style with a 3" brim & crown.
I went with a 5 element design. I wanted to incorporate a changing colour scheme so I went with a yellow sun, green for Earth and trees, with scattered leaves and fungal mycelium.
The Blue crashing waves topped with metalics representing water.
Fire gave me a chance to incorporate a dragon, one of my favourite subjects.
For the 5th Element I went with "Magic" & used metallics and shades of pink & purple. In the context magic covers the unknown. Dark matter and all that is still to be discovered or those parts we have lost on our 300,000 year journey to the present day.
The Hat band I wove with embroidery thread on my inkle loom.
That is my Sunday Stitch offering for today. Short & sweet, like me I hope 🤭

I'll bet that hat has magical properties. Have you tested it for flight?
